Until Tomorrow

Until Tomorrow follows parent carers through a moment in their life – a moment that is both catastrophic, and everyday.

Informed by Dr Siobhan O’Dwyer’s research, and conversations with carers, this powerful new play by Brenda Callis dramatises the physical and emotional toll of caring for a disabled child. In a system which punishes parents for wanting the best for their child, everyday is a battle to be seen, heard and respected. Over time the strain becomes too much, with research showing that some carers think of ending their lives. We need to talk about care, before it’s too late

This play was initially developed through funding from University of Exeter. In January 2023, a work-in-progress of this piece at Exeter Phoenix, with one audience member saying “I didn’t know I was a carer until I saw this play”.

The play was further developed late last year through a residency at Hawkwood, and we are now looking at how to bring this important story to carers all over the UK.
